Have you ever been in a restorative yoga class so good that you end in Savasana and wish you didnt have to get up and make your way back home, but could drift off to sleep right then and there? Well with this practice you can do just that, as you will already be in bed! Another perk to practicing restorative poses on your bed, is how soft and comforting your mattress is on your joints, rather than the hard floor. Since you will already be in bed, you can use the pillows and blankets around you for support rather than traditional yoga props. At the end of this 20-minute practice, I will leave you in Savasana. From there you can do just what we are aiming for, and fall right to sleep. Poses that we will work through include: Wide-legged childs pose Caterpillar Reclined pigeon Supine twist Savasana Focus and Benefits Distracting thoughts When you notice your mind wandering, bring your awareness back to the present moment. Simply focus on your breath, thinking about your inhale and exhale, and nothing else. Let it go In each of these poses, dont strive to get the deepest stretch, instead shift your focus to letting go and relaxing. Forward folds Doing these before bed will help you to release tension, and make it easier to fall asleep Twists These are a great way to relieve discomfort in your low back before bed.
