Rise and shine, it’s yoga time! Today I’m taking you through a simple yet effective morning yin yoga sequence to stretch your entire body. This is a soothing practice to get you ready for the day ahead. Please grab one block for this class or you can substitute with some folded blankets or pillows.

Each pose will be held for about 2 minutes to open up your hips, hamstrings, back and shoulders. Enjoy and please let me know if you would like more short morning yin yoga classes.

There are 3 principles of Yin Yoga.
1. Find your edge
2. Be still
3. Hold the pose

Find your edge means respecting your body’s limits and not pushing too far and risking injury. Pull back a little bit and as you hold the pose you will be able to go deeper into it without pushing too far or hurting yourself.

Being still means that once you are in the pose it is important to completely relax your muscles so the benefits can get into the connective tissues and joints. Try not to fidget or move or distract yourself, this is a meditative practice. Breathe deeply in and out through the nose.

Holding the pose means that in Yin Yoga a pose can be held for 1-10 minutes depending on the pose performed and on the comfort level of the student.

I have really enjoyed this class! This is my third day in a row. It’s short, but I love the poses that you put together. My intention is Confidence. This is my intention in every class, until I feel, believe and live it.

  2. Roxane

Nice combo to do the abs and butt class from a few days ago and follow with this yin .. thanks .. patience is my intention today

  3. Nicole Lasas

My word was comfort. And when we got into a straddle, I started to push it…and then you kindly reminded us to remember our word and I adjusted to hold true to my word. Perfect timing Kassandra.
One technical thing, when we were reclined with butterfly legs, my knees ached slightly, as they do with many hip openers. It’s like my hips have more range than my knees. Is keeping my feet flexed a way to counter the pain? I sometimes use blocks as well and release them as my knee adjust. Thank you again and again.

  4. Jeannine Quinn

    My intention today – insight
This is a great morning class! Thank you!

  5. Enrique Avila

I really enjoyed this class. The middle splits was kinda difficult for my upper aching spine when I had to twist; so I had to accommodate and reduce intensity. Otherwise, it was good for me and relaxing in the morning. My intention for the flow was to have a balanced mindset in everything I encounter in my life; from the littlest things to the most obvious endeavors/points of view. I also really enjoyed chanting Om. I honestly forgot to type this up yesterday because I got self- conscious.
