Overview

Hey yogis, this week’s class is one that has been requested so many times over the years! I’ve put off making it simply because lotus pose isn’t always safe for many people’s knees. No matter how advanced in your practice you may be, some poses might simply not feel good and that’s okay! If you’d like to try this flow for yourself, please do so very mindfully. For some, lotus pose feels great and puts no strain on the knees. For others, it’s painful and detrimental to their practice. Let’s always make sure we do things because they FEEL GOOD rather than because they LOOK GOOD. Okay, moving on from that disclaimer… This pose will focus on deep hip openers, especially external hip rotation to prepare you for lotus. We’ll start with a stronger standing series before settling into some seated hip openers. I would say it is an intermediate to advanced practice. I hope you enjoy it! one of the best, thank you so much. Tight hips are always an issue for me. I will as you suggested try more Yin practices.

    • Teri Gray

That is a good class. I can only do one side but my hips always feel so good after.🙏🏼

  2. Lisa

I jumped into the ‘November alignment’ month 2 days early…and started on the wrong day…but loved this flow so much! Definitely going to be repeating this one a lot! Thank you Kassandra! :o)))

  3. Olha

Very deep practice, thank you 🙏🙏🙏

  4. Elke Schwalm

Great class, thank you so much. When I started with you, Kassandra, about a year ago, my hips were super tight and hurting. But now I was able to do half Lotus on each side. When I was young, it was no problem to do full Lotus, but a sitting job for deacades did not do good. Now I know I can get back to flexibility 🙂

I used to be so not flexible, can’t believe bow much daily yoga with you for the past 9 months has improved my flexibility. And I actually managed to vet into full Lotus Pose, completley unexpectedly! Thank you Kassandra for making Yoga such a big part of my life ! 🙂

    Loved it!🙏🙏🙏

  7. Jim Wakeham

Well done for getting a formerly creaky 42 year old man into half lotus 🙏🙏💜💜 Big up x

      🙌🙌

  8. Sarah Durrett

Oh I loved this one. I scheduled it again for later!

  9. Shirley Hoy

My body actually allowed me to do this. This does make me happy as my body cannot do certain folds so i am going to focus more on the poses i can achieve. 💜

    • Kassandra

      Wonderful!!

  10. Heike

The pose is not for me but I love the practice. I always end up in half lotus and had to learn that it is enough.

    • Kassandra

It’s definitely not for everyone! So much going on

  11. Emily J Mahoney

Loved this practice! I have pretty open hips from many years of yoga, so lotus was easy for me. My biggest challenge was and still is balancing on one leg poses which I do facing the wall, fingertips on wall. Works for me! Thanks, Kassandra, for all your wonderful classes!

    • Kassandra

I love that! We are all students, no matter how long we practice

  12. Heather

I was able to achieve half lotus and I was happy with that. I did love this practice. I tend to carry a lot of tension in my hips and thighs. This is an area I’d like to contiune to work on. I’d like to achieve lotus fully some day. Thank you!

  13. Elke Schwalm

Wow, I was able to do half Lotus pose. When I was young, this pose was no big deal at all, but with all the sitting my hips have gotten very stiff. Will keep practising, the hiip openers are always so good. Thanks so much 🙂

  14. Jan Lewis

I could only do half lotus with the other leg extended and that felt just right. At the end, sitting cross legged, my hips are much more open and i am much more comfortable in that position.

    • Kassandra

      That’s perfect

  15. Karen Smith

Thank you! This was a wonderful class. I only could do half lotus on the right side and did notice knee pain when attempting it on the left side. I just gently got out of the pose. Overall just such a great hip opening class! Thank you again!! notice pain

    • Kassandra

Good job listening to your body

  16. Karen Smith

Sorry! I couldn’t figure out how to correct my comment and wasn’t able to delete ‘notice pain’ at the end of my post 💜

  17. Pamela Murray

Loved lotus pose. Definitely 1 side was a little different than the other. I’ll be practicing thisone again. Thank you so much. Have a wonderful evening.

  18. Pamela Murray

    Feeling much better now, Kassandra

  19. Heather

This is my second attemp at Lotus following this practice… and I did it! On my right side but not on my left! I felt so good about that accomplishment.
